Minutes from the November 9, 2006
Quintessential Quilters Meeting

President Beckey McIntyre called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.  November birthdays and QQ guests were recognized.

Announcements:

  •  Tonight is the last night to sign up for the February 2007 QQ Retreat at Deer Creek. Peggy Notestine gave an update.
  •  Barbara Olsen will be teaching two classes in January: Prismatic Flowers and Begin at the End (design the border and then the quilt). These sessions will be held at the new Stitching Post and will cost $50.00 each, with a $10.00 surcharge for non-members. Barbara will speak at the January 11 guild meeting and the classes will be held January 12 and 13th. Sign up sheets and supply lists will be available at the December meeting.
  •  The Kids N Kamp quilt auction was a huge success. Last month's garage sale netted $456.50. The extra Christmas ornaments were sold individually and made $550.00. The decorated Christmas tree went for $1,100.00 and the auction of quilts made $39,200.00! Many thanks to all QQ members who participated in some way.
  •  Beckey announced that QQ is in great need of a hospitality coordinator, greeters for each meeting and (especially) workshop committee members. Please call Beckey and let her know how you can help.
  •  A pre-school in the Worthington area is looking for help making a thumbprint quilt with their students. Beckey has more information if you are interested.
  •  Genelle Johnson is starting the Columbus Christian School of Needle Arts, to help students develop their fiber art skills and their Christian faith. She is looking for both instructors and students at this time. If you have a skill you would like to share, please contact Genelle at (614) 833-5739. She is looking at a Bexley location and will pay instructors $9.00 per hour. The brochure is available here: (pdf link)

We have 3 challenges available this year. They are:

  1. The President’s Challenge – make fabric postcards to trade with a group of Japanese quilters.
  2. The Library Ladies “No More Whining” Challenge - design and make a personalized seat cushion for our uncomfortable chairs (due Sept 2007).
  3. The Guild Challenge – Blocks in Disguise. Click here for a pdf link to these instructions.

Vicki Pignatelli was our speaker for the evening. She shared her quilt journey and many of her distinctive quilts. She demonstrated the 10 important qualities for quilters - determination, persistence, humor, flexibility, patience, courage/curiosity, passion, sharing, motivation and faith in yourself - with her quilts.

The December meeting is our Annual Banquet. The guild will provide the main, table service and drinks. Members are asked to bring sides, salads and desserts to share. We will begin the December meeting at 6:30 so there is lots of time to eat and visit. Please bring a hand-made ornament wrapped in a fat quarter to exchange (it must be handmade, but they don’t have to be your hands). If you can help with the banquet, contact Kathi Machle.

Show and tell completed the evening.

Respectfully submitted,
Jane Hedge
Secretary
